Family Outdoor Skills Weekend - Sept. 1
Naturalist Rachel Carson once said, "If a child is to keep alive his/her sense of wonder, he/she needs the companionship of at least one adult who can share it, rediscovering with him/her the joy, excitement, and mystery of the world we live in."As you know, spending time as a family is one of the most important elements to foster positive childhood development. This Labor Day, take a mini-vacation, spend time together, and appreciate the outdoors.
Classes focusing on outdoor skills will be taught by environmental educators.Families are invited to be as involved in the classes as they'd like, or to enjoy a weekend of freedom and flexibility.Knowing that the rising cost of gas is a growing concern, we are pleased to offer this experience to families as an inexpensive mini-vacation.The weekend is sure to be filled with family
May 4, 2008 - 10:10PM By Sarah Nail The Sedalia Democrat
Her classroom encompasses 180 acres: As the outdoor education coordinator at Heit's Point Lutheran Camp in Lincoln, Nikki Freeman teaches youngsters and families about plants, animal science, aquatic and forest ecology, outdoor recreation, camping skills and pioneer living.
Freeman, who says she enjoys the fact that hiking boots are part of her work attire, has a degree in education. She also has a passion for the outdoors.
"I've just been lucky enough to blend the two," she said.
Freeman guided kindergartners from St. Paul's Lutheran School through a nature scavenger hunt Tuesday, where the answer to each clue led to the next paper flower. (For the Rest of the Story Click HERE)
